Personalized home organization
Entrepreneur, mom, & wife
Moving can be stressful. Coordinating the movers, packers, child care, etc or doing it all yourself. And then, when you get to your new home, you need to let the movers know where everything goes and then unpack.
So why not make it easier on yourself and hire a professional organizer to help you out! With experience in moving, professional organizers can help you streamline the moving process and get you settled into your new home faster. Something that might take you a week could take them one day!
When would be the best time to reach out to a professional organizer? Before you move, preferably a few months before you move.
When you reach out before the move, a professional organizer can help you declutter your current home. When you declutter first, there is less stuff to move. Clutter in one house will still be clutter in the next house, but at least you won’t have to pay to move it there! I love thinking about your new home as a clean slate and a chance to create new habits and routines for your life. Even if your previous home got cluttered really quickly, you can change those habits in your new home by creating systems to keep the clutter away!
The “Strategy of the Clean Slate” is a strategy where we take advantage of the fact that when we go through a big transition, old habits get wiped away, and new habits form more easily.
Gretchen Rubin
You have a unique chance to create a “clean slate” and make this new home into what you want it to be. By implementing new habits and routines, your new home can kick start new habits into gear by implementing the clean slate strategy.
Working with a professional will help you make decisions on what to declutter or help you come up with a timeline for yourself if you feel like you have the decluttering under control. This way, you can get rid of unwanted items before you move and not use the time, energy and money to move them to your new home!
A professional organizer can also help you come up with a system for packing your home. It is way too hard to try to pack everything in one day, and you’ll still need some items that night! Having a system for your packing will help streamline the process and ensure you get everything packed up by moving day so you can direct instead of pack.
The best time to reach out to a professional organizer is now! If you’re reading this and gearing up for a move, click the button below to set up a free consultation and we can discuss how our services can help you reach your goals for moving and in your new home.
On moving day, there will be spaces you want to get set up right away. The most important spaces for me are the kids’ rooms and the kitchen. You want your children to feel comfortable in your new home right away. Rather than living in boxes for a few days (or weeks), they can head right into their new rooms and be excited about the new house. Especially if you have young children or those anxious about the move, this can make a world of difference!
The kitchen is another great place to get started on quickly. You have to eat every day. Yes, you can order dinner, but if you’re anything like me, you’ll need coffee in the morning! Getting at least some of your kitchen set up on day one is helpful for keeping your home running and keeping everyone happy (and fed).
These are the spaces a professional organizer and their team can focus on for you. That way, when the movers leave, you can relax for the evening with some key spaces ready to go for your family.
Having a professional organizer come on the day of the move or the day afterwards can really help you feel settled in your new home and get the spaces you need most up and running quickly.
Finally, the movers leave and you have boxes… everywhere. And this is just after you’ve moved, so you’re exhausted! You have three choices:
Unpack as much as you can right away, stay up way too late and have no system to how you’re putting things away
Ignore the boxes until you need something (which can create chaos in your home)
Hire some help to come the next day and quickly unpack all the boxes, create systems in your new home, and get everything running smoothly so you can get back to all the other things you need to do
Clearly, I’m a fan of choice 3. Yes, you can do this yourself, but it will take a lot longer and you may be too tired to create long lasting systems in your home. When you don’t create systems for your home, clutter and items pile up and you have to spend longer decluttering and dealing with the stuff. When you create these systems from day one, you know where everything goes, you can teach your family, and you don’t have to spend all weekend getting your house back to square one.
Also, if you choose to hire a professional organizer to help you, they can unpack a lot faster. They can have a team that works quickly and gets your house unpacked in 3 – 5 days rather than months. This gets the boxes out of your house and gets you into living in your new space.
When it comes to moving, there a lot of expenses that come into play from movers to renovations and of course all the unexpected hiccups when it comes to a new house. However, spending money on professional organizers will improve your moving experience and get you settled into your new house quickly and efficiently. That way, you can get back to your life and creating new memories in your new space!
