Entrepreneur, mom, & wife
When it comes to playroom organization, the biggest question I get is why? My kids will just destroy it. Yes, the point of a playroom is for kids to play and have fun. But it shouldn’t lead to dread at the end of the day when it comes time to clean up. I love using beautiful storage with easy clean up systems to help kids have a fun day playing but leave parents with a tidy space at the end of the day.
Even though the playroom is for the kids, parents usually have to look at it. Who likes looking at a mess at the end of the day? Not me! So I love using storage solutions that help kids stay organized but leave a visually appealing scene at the end of the day for the parents. Not to mention, easier for kids to play when everything looks nice to start with!
I’m just going to touch on it for a moment, but make sure to declutter your toys before you organize them. Organized clutter is still clutter! Check out this blog post to declutter your space if you need help.
When it comes to storage solutions, think of two different things. One, what will help your kids get the toys out to play as well as clean up easily on their own? This means open bins with labels (words or pictures). Kids can find what they need but also clean up at the end of playtime.
Also, consider your storage solutions you have. If you have open shelves, get opaque bins where kids can just toss toys into the bin rather than lining everything up. This will make it look nice when everything’s put away but it requires minimal effort to clean up. Whether you’re doing the cleaning or your kids, everyone prefers minimal effort!
If you have some cabinets or hidden storage, you can implement clear bins if that works for your family as well. This way, younger kids can see what’s inside without having to pull the bin out! This helps them decide what to get out before destroying the whole room!
Here are links to bins I love for toy storage.
For the clear bin, I love leaving the lid off for easy access for kids. Then, you can add the lid when needed for art supplies! The large square bin is great for the Ikea Kallax unit and kids can just throw toys in when it’s time to clean up.
When it comes to playrooms, all parents are trying to figure out how to get their kids to clean up. The main thing to do is make it easy for them! I love using open bins for kids. This helps with the clean up process. There is no lid in the way and they can easily toss items in. When they’re younger, I always suggest having them put items in bins, not worrying about what goes where and you do the reset every 1-2 weeks.
However, as kids get older, labels become important for teaching them how to clean items up. At Wildely Organized, we like to use word and picture labels to help kids figure out where items go. This means, earlier on, kids learn where to put items when they pick up and the reset from you only needs to happen once a month to once a quarter!
The key to getting your kids to clean up, stay consistent! This is something that takes a lot of effort on the front end but pays off in the long run!
When it comes to choosing furniture, you want to think about kid friendly items that are functional. And the more hidden storage, the better (as long as your kids know where the hiding spot is)! But you want to make sure the furniture is also functional. Having a craft/ desk area with storage is helpful for kids to work and having space for reading will help incorporate that habit.
When choosing storage solutions, consider your current life stage as well as how your kids can grow with the furniture. Make sure kids can reach the storage you want them to reach!

When it comes to organizing your playroom, you want to make sure you have systems for your family to follow. Easy to get toys out and easy to clean up! When you create this space for your child, they are more likely to play independently and give you a moment to breathe!
